Are you a cinema buff?

Strasbourg is home to Europe’s largest cinema at UGC Ciné-cité. It can screen up to 25 films at any one time, either in their original version with sub-titles or dubbed into French.

The city centre also boasts several picture houses. Each house specialises in a specific genre of cinema:

  • Le Star, 27 rue du Jeu des Enfants and Star St Exupéry, 18 rue du 22 Novembre: Art and Experimental – auteur films or films intended for mass market audiences in their original version – Blockbuster films in French
  • L’Odyssée, 3 rue des Francs-Bourgeois is a municipal house that combines off-the-wall national releases with regular themed retrospectives or “spotlights” on particular directors.

Are you passionate about History?

Johannes Gutenberg studied gold smithery in Strasbourg during his formative years. His mastery of carvery and
the science of alloys enabled him to design printing characters. That is why Strasbourg is regarded as the capital of printing and cradle of humanism. Even today, with its 18 Nobel Prizes, the University of Strasbourg is held up as a beacon of academic excellence for the brightest young minds. The National and University Library of Strasbourg is thought to be the largest university library in France and ranks second in terms of the size of its collections based on all categories (over 3 million publications).
